Walter Jankowski Obituary

Walter J. Jankowski, 90, of Clifton, formerly of Passaic, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020.

He graduated from Passaic High School in 1948 and enlisted in the US Air Force shortly thereafter. In his first enlistment he spent three years in Alaska with the 10th Air Rescue Squadron at Fairbanks.

In his second enlistment, he spent three years at McChord field in Tacoma, WA, participating in three special operations as N.C.O.I.C. of a turn-around crew servicing and maintaining a group of 16 C-124 Globemaster aircraft ferrying all military Christmas mail from our troops fighting in Korea.

The G.I. mail was picked up in Korea, brought to Tokyo and loaded on the Globemasters and flown to San Francisco; from September to December in 1952, 1953 and 1954.

After discharge from the Air Force, his last place of employment was with the NJ Department of Motor Vehicles, from which he retired.

He was predeceased by his wife the former Doris Marie Reilly and by his three brothers, Alexander, Casimir and Boleslaw.

Survivors include: his son, John W. Jankowski and his wife, Deborah of Clifton; his two grandchildren, Bianca Nicole Jankowski and Jared John Jankowski and his long-time companion, Sandy Capan.

Private Services were handled through Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Ave., Clifton.
