George Hook, 93, passed away in the Lord, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
George was born in New York City, raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, and was a longtime resident of Fair Lawn, New Jersey. George was a faithful and active parishioner of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church in Passaic. George served his country in the Marine Corps. during World War II and the Korean War, where he taught future pilots how to use radio navigation. He graduated from Teterboro School of Aeronautics and went on to work at United Airlines as an aircraft and in-flight mechanic until his retirement.
He was a proud member of the IAM, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers of North America. In 1971 George trained and graduated from the police academy and served as an auxiliary police officer for the town of Fair Lawn for over a decade. He was a fervent outdoorsman, motorcyclist, automobile enthusiast, antique collector, and an avid reader with a love of history and science.
Beloved husband of his late wife Elizabeth “Betty” Hook, loving and devoted father of daughter Elizabeth and her partner Ed Fox; son Michael and his wife Donna and grandfather to his cherished grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew. Dear brother of Dr. Richard M. Hook and his wife Dr. Carol Hook. George will be missed by his nieces, many cousins, and good friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Ave., Clifton with a Panahida at 7:00 pm. Funeral will be 9:30 am Wednesday from the funeral home and 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist RO Church, 170 Lexington Ave., Passaic. Interment to follow at East Ridgelawn Cem., Clifton.
