Anthony Zito, 91, of Clifton, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025.
Born in Baiano, Italy, to Salvatore and Angela (née Montuori) Zito, Anthony immigrated to the United States in 1961, settling in Clifton. He was the proud owner of Anthony's Coiffures on Piaget Avenue in Clifton from 1968 to 1981 before working at Hoffman-LaRoche in Clifton until his retirement in 1994.
A devout Catholic, Anthony studied for the priesthood and dedicated much of his life to his faith. He was a faithful daily mass attendee at both Sacred Heart RC Church and Holy Face Monastery in Clifton, and a member of the Immaculata Council #12211 of the Knights of Columbus. Anthony traveled frequently on church pilgrimages to locations such as Rome, Jerusalem, Our Lady of Medjugorje and Fatima which deepened his connection to God and his faith through these sacred journeys. He had a gentle spirit, and shared his faith with others. He often handed out Catholic saint medallions and scapulars to those he met, spreading kindness and devotion to all. In his youth, Anthony was known for his love of photography. He always had a camera in hand, capturing countless family events and milestones, leaving a rich legacy of beautiful memories. His passion for photography will allow his family to cherish these moments for generations to come. He also had a playful side. His nieces and nephews fondly remember driving with him in his Mustang, a car with no floor, and the joy he brought to their lives.
He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings: two sisters, Margherita Castorio and her husband Michele Castorio, Carmela Picciocchi and her husband Stefano Picciocchi; and two brothers, Giuseppe Zito and his wife Filomena Zito, and Mario Zito and his wife Carmela Zito. He is survived by his brothers Luigi Zito and his wife Maria Zito, and Raffaele Zito and his wife Maria Zito, both of Clifton and his cousin Father Andrew Peretta who served as his spiritual guide in his final days. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, both in the United States and Italy, who lovingly referred to him as “UT.”
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Avenue, Clifton. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Liturgy at Ss. Cyril & Methodius RC Church, 280 Ackerman Avenue, Clifton. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Anthony to Sacred Heart RC Church in Clifton.
Though he is now at rest, Anthony would have asked that friends and family pray for the repose of his soul, as he always placed his trust in the power of prayer and the love of God. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
